Online Communities
From JamesWiki
Community 2.0 was a conference session from the 2008 Technology Conference at the Michigan State University College of Education.
With a variety of tools available for developing or connecting to communities, classroom teachers face an often difficult choice when deciding which tools to use. Many tools, while "cool" and tempting to use, are inappropriate for the task at hand. When selecting pedagogical tools, the first question should always be "What do I want to do?" (or "What do I want my students to do?")
While tools can, of course, be used for many purposes—a hammer can put in or remove a nail, push a stone into place or break it—the structure of a tool makes it better suited for some tasks than for others—a hammer struggles to cut a board.
